Twistout using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancer (Highly recommended).  I did it right after co-washing, so after undoing the twists there was major shrinkage. Made it look like I had a TWA. I did Naptural85’s method of the twistout which is slightly different from the regular method. It definitely gave me more curl definition. check out the video »> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ntmGdXXUw .
wanted to go for an edgy look, so I pinned the side to make a “frohawk”. But the shea moisture made it soo soft. People couldn’t keep their hands out of my hair!

In celebration of my one year natural hair anniversary, I wanted to share this hair documentary, Teacher’s Weave!

I work with a group of amazing high school students from the Factory after school video program at the Bay Area Video Coalition. This year, for the first time, we decided to participate in the five day International Documentary Challenge.

While brainstorming, the students agreed that they wanted to explore the rituals of African American hair care. Since we were required to make a film from the first person perspective and it would be near impossible to find a subject in less than a week, I agreed to to break my natural hair regimen to be the guinea pig.

It took a nine hour shoot and editing until the midnight deadline, but in the end we created this quirky documentary about a teacher getting her hair did with a group of filmmaking teenagers. It wasn’t selected to screen in the festival but I’m so glad we did this!

See more of my art, my students, and my natural hair journey on my blog http://missjonesmedia.tumblr.com/. Learn more about the Bay Area Video Coalition and the programs they offer on their website!

Thanks,

Jazmin Jones

(If the video doesn’t play I have asked them to resubmit it so be patience cuz I know I couldn’t see it and I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me)
